Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have gone through several stages of turmoil in Russia as the Russian government’s policy position on Bitcoin continues to change.

Last month, Russia officially announced that it will issue CryptoRuble, the official cryptocurrency, but will not be able to generate it through mining. Instead, it will still operate centrally and people can use the Russian ruble to exchange the cryptocurrency. This will mean that Russia does not accept or endorse the legal status of Bitcoin and other de-centralized cryptocurrencies.

Three weeks ago, Russian Transport Minister Nikiforov reiterated that Bitcoin trade will never be legalized in Russia.

Russian statement

Despite the firm stance of the Russian authorities over Bitcoin, local banks and financial institutions have also made some interesting comments on bitcoin.

This is an interesting development as normally banks and bankers are very wary of Bitcoin and some of them in the West are calling Bitcoin to be just another ponzi scheme or a big fraud that can pop anytime. Maybe these bankers are seeing something with Bitcoin and they can smell a good opportunity to make some money for their business and their growing clients who might have been interested already with Bitcoin. I am predicting that Russia will eventually be a part of the countries where Bitcoin is operating under strict regulations but not banned like what China did last September.

I think its not clear whether the bankers in Russia are talking about bitcoin itself on the underlying technology that powers bitcoin - Blockchain. They are more interested in it rather the cryptocurrency itself. And jus what I suspected way back early this year, Russia will ban bitcoin and other crypto. And I always got a good laugh when I read articles hinting towards acceptance in their country. The simply reason that bitcoin cannot be controlled and decentralized will not make Putin go pro-crypto. Look at what they did, having their own state sponsored crypto, but the tax is f*** absurd. How ca a common people bought it?

I also don't think that China will lift their ban on ICO. Or open its door to trading bitcoin pairing with Yuan.

Russia is ruled by the elite and the government will do all the necessary to satisfy needs of the elite, the interests of ordinary people doesn't play the role here. They think that national crypto will rise the country and to make it cost at least something and not to become lost among other shitcoins they plan to ban bitcoin. I really don't know already what is the real course of Russia about crypto currencies regulation. They said on 1st February everything should be done already, so let's wait till that and see what will they do in the final.

Gref robbed Russia now claims to be the truth. LOL. Bitcoin will never be recognized in Russia because he is a few years will kill the Russian economy. The truth is it will happen and no bitcoin. It seems to me that Putin does not have its own strategy for the future. His goal is to retain power until his death. He was not interested in what will happen with Russia.

I can only see an ICO ban gets removed if there are some strict policies in place to prevent pure minded scam ICO's from harming innocent people with their garbage. ICO's lack serious regulations, and even to such an extent, that it might take a significant while before we see them be allowed again in whatever shape or form. No one should be able to list an ICO without following the legal route, but there hasn't been anything hinting at this, which granted scammers an insane amount of room to launch plenty of ICO's and suck up millions worth of crypto. Thats why I am glad that China did the right thing and put a direct stop to this nonsense. It's not often that I agree with the actions of a government, but in this case I do. Another good thing is that theymos (at least for now) doesn't allow ICO's to get an ad slot anymore in his weekly auctions. It won't stop scam ICO's, but at least something is being done by this forum to not let it infect everything we care about.

Believe me Putin has a plan, everything is managed already for the period after president election on March or 2018.
Russia is just heating the interests around themselves and their final decisions about crypto regulation. I understand that normal people wish the freedom, but I doubt that Russian government and their communistic roots will give this desired crypto freedom to their citizens.

All this time I've been creeping out about bankers for not supporting and acknowledging bitcoin and suddenly after knowing this i am a bit  stunned .
But reading the whole topic made me feel that bankers might not be interested in it as Russia's "native" cryptocurrency will not be mined . This would obviously increase the work load and pressure and no one really wants that . Making their own "crypto currency" is another way their government is trying to impose taxes on then via its transactions . It would be better if they do not introduce any "native" crpto currency just for the sake of the troubles they will be giving to he commoners.
Not only this , I 've heard that many bankers themselves have invested in Bitcoin in Russia . This might be one of the reason why they are opposing the ban . Looking at the ongoing  constraints and attributes It is likely that bitcoin would get banned in Russia officially very soon .

Yes, Russia can not understand with a mind. How much I read the news regarding the crypto currency in Russia, I can not decide how the Russian government treats it, so everything there is contradictory and vague. Like the general policy of the Russian leadership in the international arena. One thing is clear, there will not be anything good in relation to the crypto-currency. The management is interested only in their own selfish plans.

China and Russia seem to agree together to block bitcoins. In fact, they want to make own ico for their self benefit.
are china will lift the ban? i don't think so.
