I made my first BTC purchase at coinbase.com and the 5-day delay after your funds are withdrawn but before the BTC purchase is made and the price is set leaves something to be desired.  I'd like to start using a real exchange instead.  I've created a BTC-e account but I don't see instructions anywhere about how to deposit funds into the account.  How is that done?

Should I expect it to go like this?

1. deposit funds to my BTC-e account via wire transfer or another method
2. the funds appear in my BTC-e account within 1-2 days
3. trade the funds for BTC
4. withdraw the BTC to the wallet on my computer

How long do #3 and #4 take?

At which points does BTC-e charge a fee?

Does BTC-e require you to go through a verification process?  If so, what do they verify?

Depending on where you live. Depositing into BTC-e may not even be possible.

For people living in the US, they can try coinbase, Campbx (price is not favorable) and bitstamp (there are risk for putting money in Euro zone right now).

Wiring to BTC-e is easy now, but it's prohibited for US sitizens.

3 and 4 take minutes (if you buy for market prices)
BTC-e charges 0.2% fee upon the trade completion from the amount you receive.
There is no verification at all.

BTW if you're from US it's better to use CampBX to buy BTC cheap. Then you can withdraw them to BTC-e and trade there e.g.

For buyers the price at Campbx is very favorable.

I was not aware of this. Where exactly can I find this information?

What about wire out to the US?

Look at the Knowledge base at https://hdbtce.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/List
I told admin to add this warning at deposit page but they haven't done this yet.

It sounds like the best way (besides coinbase.com) for a US citizen to get into BTC is campbx funded via Dwolla.  Then if I want to buy LTC I can transfer BTC from campbx to BTC-e and make the trade.  Good plan?  Any gotchas to watch out for?

Do campbx or Dwolla do any verification besides linking my bank account to Dwolla?  I see that there's a 31-day holding period for 1st-time depositors in Dwolla which is fine.

You'd better look for Dwolla specific info at CampBX's FAQ.
Besides that the plan looks good to me.

For people living in the US, while the price is trending down CampBX is the best place to buy bitcoins. When the price is rising consistently on a weekly basis Coinbase is the best place to buy Bitcoins.

I must disagree - I think the new exchange https://fbtcexchange.com/ is going to kick laggy campbx.com's butt.  Easy to get verified, quick, responsive, lower fees (0% until August, then 0.45%) and the best securit features.  In addition to google authenticator, let's you lock down BTC withdrawals to a small # of bitcoin addresses so even if you are totally compromised (they get your phone), they still cannot withdraw bitcoins.

It is even quicker to fund - for campbx easiest method by far is Dwolla. This is a quick wire transfer.

However, Campbx does have two advantages:
1. Cheaper to deposit USD (Dwolla charge 25 cents versus $10+ for a wire transfer
2. Located in USA so may have less issues with AML laws - they are already registered as a money exchanger
