I'm looking for more information on how the construction of an alt coin with the ability to be mined.

Looking at Dogecoin as an example based of this. Dogecoin based itself on LuckyCoin which in truned based itself on Litecoin.

did Dogecoin creates its own blockchain protocols or does it relly on Litecoin's protocols?

if so, are ther any resources in this forum to read on the documentation of open sourced blockchains?
