We had the honor of catering last week at San Francisco’s @coinbase. I jokingly asked if we could get paid in BTC aka Bitcoin. Not only did they agree, but this was the first time they paid a vendor in cryptocurrency! Thank you Coinbase and yes we accept cryptocurrency for catering!

Although I consider them the shittest exchange in the bitcoin scene, this is too important to not to be shared lol I wish all the exchanges followed a similar pay structure towards their staff, event managers, promoters. If nothing else that would truly help promote bitcoin commercially.

Wait, what? I thought Coinbase employees get their salary in Bitcoin already right? I am pretty sure I have seen Bitcoin job offerings noting this little detail before. It seems Coinbase paid an independent contractor (the catering company) in Bitcoin which is a precedent for Coinbase as strange as it might sound haha. Or perhaps the catering company was the first one to ever ask Bitcoin payment outside of Coinbase staff?

That is likely to be the case. I'm glad coinbase accepted the deal. Are you sure their staff is paid in bitcoins? That's great then! One of the vendor's comments in the thread was like his business have officially started to accept bitcoins after the coinbase payment which is good.

Yeah I am pretty sure. In fact, I just did a quick Google search to see whether I am remembering this right or not, and this is what I found:

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/26/in-bitcoin-work-world-job-benefits-like-pay-401k-get-a-rethink.html

It's straight from CNBC so I think it's pretty legit:

Quote
At cryptocurrency start-ups like Coinbase and BitPay, workers are getting paid in bitcoin.
Some workers take 100 percent of their pay in digital currency, though most take a much smaller percentage and get most of their salary in a traditional paycheck.
The most common use of bitcoin pay as an employee benefit is saving for retirement, similar to an IRA or 401(k).

May be their catering vendor company also doing service for the bitcoin payment and this is the first they made the payment. I do not know is this a big news if normal crypto user do the same thing to pay anywhere no one will consider it.

but since they are biggest exchange and web wallet kind of firm we are taking this for discussion. Hope I pay in near by hotel with bitcoins very soon so I may become demand in topic here. lol

I am sure a lot of exchanges would have no problem to pay in Bitcoin, the problem is the staff may be not interested to be paid in BTC. Bills and food still need to be pay in fiat, why an employee should accept to be pay in Bitcoin and bother to convert then in fiat, and paying fees on the top of that

Why do you think they're the shittiest exchange though? I personally have never used Coinbase as it doesn't support my country, but it seems like they're doing fine. If anything, they're probably one of the leading platforms for global adoption as they're probably still the #1 crypto <-> fiat exchange.

Wait, what? I thought Coinbase employees get their salary in Bitcoin already right? I am pretty sure I have seen Bitcoin job offerings noting this little detail before. I don't think them paying for catering make the catering service provider fall under being an "employee" though. It's probably more of a gig than a job; so yea. Most likely the first to actually demand bitcoin instead of fiat outside their formal employees.
