Sometimes, sometimes not. Some sexually reproducing species evolve into parthenogenetic species. An example is the gecko Lepidodactylus lugubris.

If you are trying to imply that humans are under some compulsion to maximize their reproduction then I think you are deluding yourself. Have you maxed out your gamete donation options yet? why not?
