Hi all,

I have a 4870 and can't seem to get OpenCL to work with it. I downloaded the latest drivers and installed the AMD APP SDK but when I run GPU Caps Viewer I can only see my processor. I'm not sure what to try next. I've searched the web and tried getting help on AMD's forums, but with no luck (a poster there stated that OpenCL's not supported on the 4870, but I see that others on this forum are mining with the cards, so I'm not sure that's correct).

If you've had this problem or have an idea of what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate the help! Let me know what additional information I should provide and I'll do so. Alternatively, if there are miners that don't require OpenCL I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Thanks for the help!

(I should have added that I read the post here http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=19122.0 that suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Catalyst pack, which I did, but I'm having the same problem.)

You need to install the "AMD APP SDK" which basically just enables OpenCL on 4 series cards. (:

Thanks for the post, lolcat. I'll definitely check out bitclockers.com when I'm up and running.

I tried installing the AMD APP SDK, but I still can't see my card in GPU Caps Viewer or in GUIMiner. I installed the SDK after I installed the Catalyst pack. Should I try wiping everything out and starting with the SDK only? Do you think that might make a difference?

FWIW, I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.

According to this: http://bitclockers.com/forums/index.php?topic=6.0
Your card is compatible with mining and you should get around 90 mh/s

I heard about an issue where a new version of catalyst didn't work work with the SDK.

My advice is to well re-boot if you haven't then re-install.
Be sure you are using the latest version of GUIminer, found here: https://github.com/downloads/Kiv/poclbm/guiminer-20110614.exe

Bitclockers.com forums sections for good guides!

Maybe even try a different mining client?

Thanks. I'll try again with an older version of catalyst. Hopefully that's the issue.
