I'm new to bitcoin and I like everything about it, except for the fact that I wasn't mining coins 1 year ago, which leads to my question; Should I be mining any of the alternative coins?

I do not want to undermine bitcoin, but I do want to "hedge my bet" so to speak, so I am wondering which other coin system should I have alongside bitcoin?

Heretic! How dare you mention any other currency than that most holy of blockchains, Bitcoin (blessed be its name)...
[/snark]

Go see this topic, there is a pool (Coinotron) that will automatically switch your miners to the most profitable coin. A good idea, although I have not used the service myself yet. Hope it helps

Think of pool-hopping, but now with chains. If you want to maximize profit you should chain-hop. Hop to the chain with the highest BTC profit. Then when it drops, exchange your other coins to BTC and switch to the next chain.

Yes, you should be engaged in mining all 3 of Anarcorp's mining networks.  Use extra memory to store the claims you like,  take advantage of the anonymity/pseudonymity provided and submit your favorite movies/songs/etc, use your extra processing power to perform the traditional mine and help secure Anarcorp's transactions.
