Every year my old village sends round a Christmas quiz to raise money for the cottage hospital.

the answers are from 'well-known proverbs, books, plays, sayings and phrases'

for example in the section 'soldiers, weapons and fighting' there was a clue T fight T A N

answer is obvious, no? 'to fight tooth and nail'

so please help me with this clue in the same section: T T to T M!

I'm rejecting 'talk turkey to the man!' and 'to take to the mat!' as unlikely answers, but they're not far off the likely grammar structure.

pls halp and no sig spam

yay finally found it

https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/tell-it-to-the-marines.html
A scornful response to a tall and unbelieved story.

[The commanding officer] if a soldier complained to him of hardships which he could not comprehend, would be very likely to recommend him to "tell it to the marines"!

The longer version of the phrase is found earlier, in John Davis's The Post-Captain, or, The wooden walls well manned comprehending a view of naval society and manners, 1804:

"He may tell that to the marines, but the sailors will not believe him."

I hadn't heard it before, but will use it whenever possible.
Many thanks for your interest.

Oh cmon this is not fair!! You said T T to T M! So this was tricky, where's the I? It should be T I T to T M instead =)
Have a great weekend and congrats on the achievement!

Funny how the talk of fighting and the letters only makes me think of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Perhaps fighting to the top mountain.
