Hi there,

I am heading for smaller investment (about 1500 dollar), I want to buy mostly btc maybe some alts.
Friend of min recommended bitfinex.com because of the margin options.
Do you have any recent expierences with this host? Would you recommend another platform?
I am planning to hold and maybe trade a little alts.
Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks

as one of their costumer i think it would be better for you to diversify your portfolio.
what i mean is we do not know what will happen with us in the future and i think it's a good choice to lessening our risk by dividing our portfolio to many exchanges.
for example recent problem with bitfinex :
https://www.reddit.com/r/bitfinex/comments/7hiw0q/eth_withdrawal_problems/
and of course it will not be the last one right ?
in my opinion you can use that platform to store your Bitcoin,
but use a smaller one like bittrex or kraken or something else to store your altcoin.
well basically all of them have their own problem.
just hope nothing wrong will happen to you whenever you are using their platform..

Bitfinex was hacked before and hackers had successful taken out 100k+ bitcoin overnight and the one who have kept their bitcoin there just got some token from bitfinex rather than bitcoin. Don't know how all they end up but I haven't traded there since than.

I would recommend you to try kraken, poloniex or bitstamp rather than bitfinex for now.

and they re still not bancrupt? how is this working? If they coul cover this costs (well I don't know, when this should have been happening) they seem more trusty to me, wont you accept on that?
And if the platform payed for the urged costs, it would be in there very own interest to improve their securitiy, won't u agree with me?

By the way, I did not bought yet, first stratet in the weekend and thought about it..

Your friend is a dumb, how can he tell you that marging options are the best thing of bitfinex?

You are going to lose all your money in there.

if you do not even know what the hell are the "marging" positions then do not even think about opening one, because they are working like a broker with long/short positions, if you do not know how it works, you will make a mess in there and probably you will lose it all.

Be careful, if you want to use a simple exchange, just use bitfinex, but only for trading and holding purposes.

Good luck

I trade on bitfinite altcoins to USDT (they have them listed as USD). I like this exchange, it is convenient, large trading volumes. But there are certain problems in recent times: a large number of DDos attacks at the most inopportune moment, suspense, unexpected logout. Now new users can not register, few of whom get it.
