I'd just play out the rest of my career, earning my salary and hoarding it as Bitcoin, while living off money from sponsorships and bonuses. Sportspeople these days "retire" by their mid-30s, so Rosenthal's got about 7 years to build up his personal wealth. And who knows what Bitcoin would be worth in 7 years?

Not sure what you mean by this. Players in modern European football get their wages paid weekly, and I highly doubt he'll mind paying 900 sats/byte to get his payments confirmed. Hell, maybe even skimp on fees and wait months for them to confirm, not like he'll need them urgently.
