Hi all,

So I managed to order my first piece of mining hardware - a Feb 2018 batch Antminer s9.

While I'm waiting for the arrival date - I'm just wondering if painting the silver part of the body in matt black thermal paint would be a good idea.

In principle, this will radiate heat a little better - allowing for higher hashrates or potential overclocking.

Downside of course is that less of the heat is directed out into the air - which means less control if I want to use it in miner-as-a-heater mode.

Not an option I'm set on yet - just wondered if anyone had tried it?

Cheers.

a. the speed of s9's cannot be changed.
b. Paint of any sort has an insulation value - opposite of what you are thinking of. Black anodizing, yes that would increase radiant dissipation but,
c. With a forced air cooled system any radiant heat dissipation is a moot point because the airflow removes the heat 100's of x faster
d. It is not the casing that is generating the heat, it is the dense mass of chips and their heatsinks. All the casing does is contain the airflow.

Nice out of the box thinking though.
You do know these are industrial miners and that means LOUD right? As in a hair-dryer or shopvac loud
