Linux Question

Hey guys I'm just starting out with a new rig and I read you can get more cards connected using linux versus windows. I have pretty limited linux experience, only from a couple classes from college years ago, and wanted to know if it'd be worth using linux or just stick to Windows since I'm comfortable with that. Thanks for any help!

If you use one of the Ubuntu variants you should be fine even with limited college experience, assuming you got a basic handle on the linux shell -- or at least know how to google it.

Using Xubuntu I once had to go through the extra steps of compiling one of the drivers, however that was for the Wifi adapter, the GPU drivers were mostly fine. Depending on the alts you are trying to mine you might have to compile some of the mining software from source though. If you're not comfortable with having to compile from source, Windows might be the better choice. It still doesn't hurt to give Linux a try though

Yeah I was told from a friend to use Ubuntu 14 but if there's a more recommended one for mining I'd be open to suggestions.

Most mining programs for Linux seem to be faster, and they will give you more hashrate than their versions compiled for Windows. So if you want some extra bucks as well as security, Linux is undoubtedly the best choice. And once you get the hang of it, you will definitely love it! I use Linux myself, though not for mining.

I personally prefer Xubuntu (= Ubuntu + xfce) since xfce is the most light-weight desktop environment available for Ubuntu. For mining it shouldn't make a difference though. Just make sure to get the latest stable Ubuntu version with the latest GPU drivers. Especially drivers can make a huge difference in performance.

You can always go for other Linux distros, but in my opinion Ubuntu is the easiest one to set up for a beginner and I'm not aware of any mining-specific distros.

Ubuntu 14/16 are the LTS (long term support) variants you should be fine with either but id recommend 16

Just get Ubuntu, it is easy to use.

Tails OS, I think good enough.

I am using Ubuntu Gnome, it's pretty easy to use and looks slick.
