I sent $5.00 Bitcoin Cash from Coinbase to my Electrum 3.0.3 wallet. The receive address is correct. Upon examining the transaction in Coinbase, it shows completed with 10 confirmations and the receiving address is correct (plus additional receiving addresses for the fees). When I go into Electrum, I select show Addresses, and the receiving address is there but the balance is zero.

I have shut down and restarted Electrum twice AND I have tried switching servers about a dozen times to force a sync. Balance is still zero.

What am I missing?

Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin are different coins and will thus have different Blockchains. If you send Bitcoin Cash to any Bitcoin address that is on a Bitcoin wallet, the wallet will not see it since its not on the Bitcoin Blockchain. You need to download and install a Bitcoin Cash wallet to see it. You do have to export your private key though, go to Wallet>Private Keys>Export and find your private key.

ranochigo is right. In your case, the easiest way is to download Electron Cash[1], which is a Electrum fork for Bitcoin Cash. Then you can just open your Electrum wallet file with it and immediately see and spend your Bitcoin Cash. No need to export private keys!

If you can't find your wallet file, here[2] is the default directory for each OS.

Thanks to both of you. The Electron Cash worked perfectly and the transaction showed up once I opened up my original default Electrum wallet. I thought I read that Electrum supported many crypto-currencies besides Bitcoin (like litecoin). I just did not read carefully enough!

Hey guys,

In the same vein, I made a similar mistake, but am unsure of what to do after the fact! I was going to follow the steps I've seen posted recently about going Coinbase -> Shapeshift -> Toast Wallet (converting Litecoin to Ripple), but I read many people were having problems going from Coinbase to Shapeshift and that my best bet was to send to Electrum in between. However, I made a mistake when following this and accidentally sent to Electrum as opposed to Electrum-LTC (must've downloaded the wrong one when I googled it). Now it's not showing up in my Transaction History (though Coinbase confirmed it finished). What do I do?!

****EDIT: SOLVED! I found this wonderful tutorial on youtube and it's mine again! I'll put it here should anyone come across this issue like I had:
