open air rig fan direction

I have cases similar to this one:

I've seen similar setups with fan direction varying.  I've heard you want to have the fans suck the hot air out, but I've heard the opposite as well.  I think both make sense, the end of the GPU's have heatsinks so it seems it would make sense to blow air into them? also considering it's "open air", perhaps the heat will dissipate on it's own?  But at same time, maybe it's more helpful to be pulling the hot air directly away from the GPU's?  I'm not sure.

Could someone recommend the ideal fan direction for this?  Thanks!

I would point the case fans towards the cards, especially since the cards pictured have blower-style coolers. These intake air from the large circular hole at one edge, force it through the heatsink, and out a vent near the video ports.

Pointing the fans away from the rig seems as though it would cause unnecessary turbulence and dead zones.


Alternatively, you could simply test this by experimentation.
