Hey guys, this is gonna make me look really stupid. I'm a bit of a crypto noob but decided to try and buy some kin today on ether delta, which I managed. It was complicated as hell and I tried to do loads of small things several times, each time changing the gas amount. I thought the gas amount was like a limit and so I set it super high to try and make my deposits and trades go through. I also did this through my ledger. I go into my ledger tonight, 4 hours later to look at my balances and I'm 5 eth down.

heres the transaction record https://etherscan.io/tx/0x89bc94ac2a7fe881fac758dbf0a40604998bc10bbb68068eb8d53873b9d820ad

Did I get hacked or did I somehow manage to throw away 5 eth by setting high gas prices and fiddling with the totally unfriendly interface.

Thanks!

All those are spent on gas. Look at your transaction. Why would you crank up the gas limit that high??

No, you just made some developer really happy. Think of it as a generous donation to the community.

actually surplus fee should be refunded after completed transaction
never thought that miner pool is adjusted to rob but have kind of fee cap themselves
but what u did there, you have adjusted fee limit to 12,5 ETH

Oh, on this exchange there really is such an unpleasant moment as gas. I think many newcomers fell prey to this
