Mew private key needed with Ledger Nano s?

I am unclear if I need to store MEW private key and or seed words if I am using Nano S Ledger  internal private key and seed words.
Does's Ledger Nano S  over ride the need for MEW?
I would appreciate some insight on this.

MEW will connect to your device and act as a client for your Nano S. The wallet and addresses will be the same as shown in your Nano S, so you will only need to backup your Nano S seed.
