Vega 64s are currently the best GPU for the Cryptonight Algorithm.

Vega 56 and RX 580/70s are good too. AMD cards are better than Nvidia currently for cryptonote coins.

Always doubt.

What he said ... Vega's kill it on the Cryptonight algo.  I have a six gpu vega 56 rig that I was mining XMR with.

Each Vega give around 1800 - 1900 h/s.
RX 570/580 can give better profit on ETH

Wait until someone has them in stock.  I bought those at the end of November and have been buying Nvidia cards ever since, because I haven't seen them in stock anywhere.

Is it profitable to start with just one card and then expand as one can afford more cards?  Og should one just watt until one can afford a proper rig with 6 cards?

You can use RX 580 for mining XMR, the hashrate and energy consumption are satisfied.

Sure.  If you want to get started and get a feel for everything, I wouldn't hesitate starting off with one gpu.

No idea.  I've never tested it with Nvidia cards because other algo's are more profitable with Nvida gpu's.
