I am relatively new to this crypto currency world and I am bit concerned about the downfall of the major crypto currencies at a higher rate in the past few hours,

could someone please shed some insight as to why this is happening? should we be worried?

It does not seem to be worrying. Indeed, the rate of bitcoin, and behind it and the majority of crypto-currencies, has been falling steadily lately. Today, the bitcoin rate is 11,192 dollars, and it seems that this is not the limit in its decline. Previously, it was predicted that its price would go down to $ 10,000. It goes to that. It is possible that it will temporarily fall even lower. Some of the nervous will sell their bitcoins, and perhaps even leave the world of crypto-currencies. This happens periodically and this must be treated philosophically.
It seems that now they are deliberately dropping the rate of bitcoin. Apparently, someone decided to skimp well before raising his rate. So while you need to have patience and wait for another surge in prices.
