What does it take for somebody without a background in computer science or coding to learn blockchain development?

I'm a professional in another field which could majorly benefit from blockchain applications. But in order to understand what really is possible and best, I would like to understand blockchain development well enough to be able to code a little myself (and grasp properly what can be coded or developed, and what can't).

So far I've started with Stanford's MOOC, but that requires a working knowledge of JavaScript, which I am currently learning on CodeAcademy.

Would anybody be so kind to suggest some ways forward from there?

Any help is much appreciated - thank you!

Try to apply for internship openings at exchange platforms. If you succeed you will learn a lot.

I would recommend getting first started with understanding Bitcoin to its fullest, and then transitioning into general blockchain development. Two courses that I recommend is Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies by Princeton University, available for free through Coursera; and IBM Blockchain Foundation for Developers, also available through Coursera.

Both are completely free courses without certification, or with it if you apply for Coursera's scholarship. You will need prior experience with programming, and specially object-oriented programming to complete both courses. If you are starting from complete scratch, I would concentrate on learning how to program first.

If you have a background in computer science i guess you understand code? In this way i would suggest to take a look into ethereum or bitcoin on github to understand the setup of the project and learn about the different functions.
