Can I overclock if temp is constant???

Hey guys,

I have msi gaming gtx 770 , and the temperature is constant at 64-67C  even after I overclocked it by +100 on core clock and +400 memory clock.

I am wondering if I increased the core clock to lets say 400 or 400 and memory clock to 800-1000 or the max I can reach and if the temperature is still below 70C will my gpu catch on fire or something?

The easiest thing to do is set the fan curve in Afterburner so that the fan speed increases as the temp rises. You can overclock until it becomes unstable and crashes then reboot and lower the clocks.

Yeah it actually crashed when I increased core clock to +250 and memory clock to +500

My GPU has 85C working for month with +100 core and 400 memory OC, but I have to say its GTX 1070. with better air airflow.

OC the coreclock +250 is not necessary why ? memory clock is important for mining.

Above 90 all GPU sooner or later will catch fire.

Just a bit of warning from my personal experience - I killed one card and damaged 3, 1080ti, with too much overclocking. Don`t push them. I overclocked too much and they lasted just 18 hours, then died

WOW I just restored default settings, I think the extra 40 hashes doesn't deserve the risk!!! .
I will stick to stock clocks then and hope will reach ROI

I set +230 core & +1000 memory, did not touch voltage. When Nicehash was benchmarking, core was shooting up to 1800mhz (1632 is max for this card by the spec).

Cards worked for just 18 hours, 38 mh/s at ETH. Then it started to freeze, blue screens and did not work, Windows 10.

Took all my 12 cards to electronics engineer/mining expert, who told me the bad news.

On 1 card, I killed one of the memory chips, on other 3 cards core has been burned.

Temperature and power use aren't the only limiting factors when overclocking.

There are also safe limits for core and memory clocks, for every unit. Off the top of my head, excessive memory clocking can lead to artifacting (I've seen some users with Samsung memory get close to +600-650 stable OC, but check with your own hardware), which is a sign that you are pushing your card too hard.

Whether or not is something you should check experimentally, although there are some trends with certain algorithms. For example, with equihash, I haven't noticed gains between +100 and +300 mem on my 1060s and 1080tis, but people have had mixed results.

i dont care what anybody says, i always keep my cards under 62C. remember, its more important to take hot air off than put cold air on your rig.

I have to agree. I keep my gpus at around the 60c mark. Ambient is around 19-21c which is maintained by the gpus themselves

in my early days of mining, I pushed my cards with +1800Mhz on memory (under Ubuntu), after a week one started failing at start. I plugged it into my windows desktop to see what what happening and like you said, display was full artifacts. It was still under warranty so I had it replaced, now I stay around +500Mhz which is probably much safer for the long term.

Its a EVGA GTX 1070 FTW with 3 years waranty so I dont care so much haha
And it has good cooling.

I knew there was an campain for this but I thought mine were a newer generation that have that cool pads
