Is there any tutorial available online as to how to run bitcoind from another computer without the second computer having to download the whole blockchain?

For example, I have a homeserver that I started bitcoind on and right now its sitting there syncing with the network...  I saw during install that it uses RPC, so I assume that I can connect from my laptop to my homeserver and use that instance of bitcoind to save myself a couple of GB download time.
