I need to send a confidential piece of data to another person electronically.  What is the best method of doing so, with zero chance of anyone else intercepting/interpreting/storing the data sent?  I would send it via email, but email logs could potentially reveal it in the future.  I would send it via a chat program, but not sure whether the central server for the chat service might be storing the data.

torchat is pretty brainless and uses the tor network

pigeon with the encryption plugin.

or as said above, gpg

or something like www.encr1pt3d.com which just lets you make a simple encrypted message with a pass.. there are a lot of sites like it but of course you have to trust how it was set it.

Download Hamachi and set up a LAN-like network over the internet with people you trust. The application comes with a simple chat utility, and all convo's are encrypted with AES-256 using the network key shared between members of your group.

Use 7zip, right click on the folder click add to archive, encrypt it using AES 256-bit and use a really super long complex password. Create an account and Upload it to MegaUpload. Send the link via email. Once they download it, check to see if it was only downloaded 1 time and delete it. Then send password via email.

Both ends must have a secure connection to their email website of course (https://)
