Is there a list out there of the most effective ways to mine some of the different coins?

I am wondering more for some of the coins with smaller market cap.

That site is great. Thanks.  How do I figure out the mhs for my system?

Also, I looked a lot into bitcoin equipment but decided against mining bitcoin.  What type of equipment could I buy to mine for peercoin or primecoin for example?

When choosing the coin to mine, you have to do some research on where you can exchange them.(if you are mining for USD-profit).
I my case, i mine FTC atm. The most profitable coin i can trade at btc-e.com. Easy to get coins/fiat in and out.  Wink

I guess you are planning to mine scrypt-coins?
