OLD bonus KNC neptune (w/o LCD) doesn't reset with newer (w/ LCD) instructions.

I have an old knc miner Neptune from bonus round.  It's controller does not have an lcd screen. 
Instructions for LCD screen miner don't successfully reset my miner admin password.
pressing the button 5 times, waiting 5 seconds, pressing the button again 5 times. 
does not reset the password.  I attempt to log into the miner and admin / admin does not work.   

Does anyone know how to reset the old KNC neptunes?  I currently have subsidized electricity and would love to get these cubes mining.

All the controllers since Jupiter should be the same. Have you tried reflashing the code on the beaglebone?

Alterately it may be the BBB that is confused. If you need the code, let me know.
