A necro-bump is the bumping of a very old thread with a worthless post. It messes up the boards, and doesn't contribute anything. At the moment I'm giving away merits for up to ten posts per day, and if I put you on ignore, then you won't get any merit from me ever. I've also started to report these bumps, so you may end up on the radar of the moderators.

I also reposted many times who do necro bumps,I don't know why they are waking up a thread which last post was two years back,I think people involving in these kind of activity to be banned. These are mostly happening in the bitcoin discussions and gambling discussions.

But I am wonders why they are doing these. Huh

Unless it’s a thread claiming bitcoin is dead from 2 years ago so we can laugh at it or somebody predicting something that has now come true then I agree Jet Cash, bumping old threads is 99% usually some shit poster trying to fill gheir campaign quota to get paid.

There are some examples such as above where it isn’t always bad though.

Carry on reporting obvious spamming attempts though.

I reported one yesterday that was necrobumped from 2010 just for a garbage one liner post.  :/

It would be unfair to ban them straight off the bat if they have only done it once, or possibly twice. But, any serial necro bumper is likely to be  trolling anyway. Deleting the necro is sufficient enough in most cases. I don't think it happens that regularly enough to make it a huge problem.

Obviously, keep on reporting them if they add nothing new to the discussion.

I saw a few "necro-bump" posts yesterday or so,
what if the post is relevant to current situation but has a few months to 2 years gap apart since last post
would that be categorized as necro-bumping and deserved to be reported too?
would that encourage mods to lock the thread, after removing that post, to stop it being repeated?

I'm wondering why aren't the inactive threads auto locked and moved to archive? For example some threads which don't have new replies for maybe over a year should be locked and moved to archive.

But there are legitimate reasons for posting comments to old threads. Some have already been mentioned here. I would therefore instead suggest implementing a restriction based on user rank. I’m thinking that would at least take care of newbie throwaway accounts posting garbage in dead threads.

Auto-locking sounds like a good idea. If this was done, then you wouldn't need to archive the thread.

I can think of no good reason why an old thread should be  bumped. Most forums suggest that the approved method of adding updated comments to an old thread is to link to it, and post the updated information in a new thread. This saves readers from scanning through a load of outdated posts tht are no longer relevant.
