Blue screen ( not bsod ) when underclocking gpu memory on 5830's

Has anybody else run into this issue?

I'm using MSI Afterburner and have had this happen on 2 different miners of mine.  As soon as I hit apply, my fan speeds ramp up since i upped them but the screen goes blue.  So it seems like it's running but the screen goes blue and I can't see what's happening without doing a hard reboot.

How far are you underclocking it?

tried 500. 

Kinda worried about trying flashing the cards w\ these results.

Does it do this at stock speeds? As well?
