I've got a couple GPUs that run hot no matter where I move them.  Got many others of the same kind and they are fine.  Power limit, core, algo, etc are all the same.

I have some cards that run hot like that. I just let em run hot, they will last long enough to become obsolete for mining either way.

I used to run my Fermi core GTX at 95c 24/7 and the card lasted 6 years before I decommissioned it so I dont fear heat as much as most people here do.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

I have the same problem with my Sapphire R9 290 and MSI 290. Just adding Delta PWM fan, attached to the front fan and replacing the thermal paste, now running around 75-80, previously running at 85 sometimes reach 92 and it makes my R9 rig restarted.

The other is RX 480 (Power Color - Red Devil) hit 80 till 85, re-mod bios and problem solved. Now running around 65-68.

of course, some miners had experienced it included me.
usually happened because of thermal system management a GPU it is bad, a fan is loose moreover if a fan setting 100% on GPU, if a continuously a fan quality is less optimal. I do change a processor paste, clean a dust on the fan and give an additional fan.

Most of my GPUs are secondhand, in my case, yes. Most of the time, they only need thermal paste reapplication.
Sometimes, the problem comes from a worn-out GPU.

For brand new ones, we can never tell if the product they handed you have defects or not. Those have never been tested to a stressful usage.
Only brands can tell, the products from a reputable brand could produce less defective GPUs than the ones from a substandard brand.
