Welcome mate!

Thank you! I'm happy to see things are up and running again. I was slightly worried there for a couple of days!

If you don't have dedicated stuff, you should mine altcoin.
And compare pools by checking trust and % com.

P2Pool would be a choice, though if you're wanting a smaller pool which as of right now has a high variance.. though we have found 1 block thus far.  www.BTCMiners.net -- We'd love to have you!

Ozcoin. As a noob i mined with a 5850 using GPUMiner on Slush's pool. LTC caught my attention for a while when BTC mining on a single GPU went useless and then i got my hands on a couple of USB Block Erupters. Today i run 13pcs of them. The small profits i make are invested in more mining hardware and the BTC community. I reached ROI pretty fast and kept mining just for the fun of it. The profits i make won't make me rich any time soon so i just... do it... because i can... Smiley

tl;dr: Choose what pools fits your needs the best.

In the end it's entirely up to you.  Find what works _for you_ everyone has different needs and different wants.  Best place to be pointed to would be the "Mining Pool List" - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104664.0 where you can see a vast amount of pools and their qualities.  It's going to depend on your wants/needs/hashing rate to decide on the best ROI if that's your goal or what other agenda you may have.

You'll see in my post the current up-to-date P2Pool list.

I like Bitminter and BTCguild.  Both pros and cons, bitminter pays in average the same pay per share, but the PPS differs quite greatly everytime.  They both have a huge hashrate, so no problem getting paid.
