Is there anything good other than Litecoin? I bought into Feathercoin and now it seems to be dying out.

You can just look at the first page at https://www.cryptsy.com/ to see the volume of each coin traded in the past 24 hours.  Some do better than others, some are doing very well, some not at all.  That's just one exchange, many coins are listed on multiple exchanges, so their trading volume is even higher than what you'd see there.

They are all live experiments. They answer the questions like "What if Bitcoin did X or Y?".

The value part, well it's needed to self-fund the experimentation, without it, nobody would be interested to do real life testing outside a lab setting.

If the harsh conditions of a viable economy do not destroy your altcoin implementation completely, we get things like Namecoin, Litecoin and Primecoin.

However if your idea is shitty and incapable of competing with other ideas, you get things like Feathercoin, Devcoin and Ixcoin.

A few seem to have potential but there does appear to be a lot of suspect coins with no dev support. Be careful and do your due diligence research before investing.
