Their terms of service explicitly state that SS does not accept U.S. Players.
"Residents of the United States, the Netherlands Antilles, Costa Rica, Israel, and any country which was part of the former USSR after 1946 and which is not a member of the European Union, are specifically prohibited from becoming players at our casino. Additionally, residents of Nigeria, Mali, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Turkey, Bosnia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and any other country with a majority Islamic population not otherwise specified, are prohibited from joining our site; this is out of respect for the Islamic prohibition against gambling (Sura Ma'idah 5:90,91)."

Well duh. Rules were made to be broken Tongue
I know plenty of players that use VPNs and proxies to act like they're from canada. I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my legal advice, but it seems like the only problems you can face legally involve tax evasion if you don't report your winnings.
Also, sorry to pull out the copy paste X_x

I'm not sure what the point of this question is. Are you conducting an investigation?  Roll Eyes

We take our block of US players very seriously, and have from day one. We also block VPNs, anonymizing services and hosting netblocks. When in doubt we verify identity prior to deposit. We reserve the right to request additional verification from players at any point during play or prior to withdrawal. We believe this shows we have taken every reasonable measure to implement the legally required controls, above and beyond the steps taken by most legally operating non-US-facing casinos.

To our knowledge, no one has played from the US for real money on our site. If someone did, they'd be in violation of the TOS as well as providing false information.

No, not conducting an investigation or anything of the nature. Pure academic purposes. I had always wounder how online casinos protect against players who violate both the TOS and us law. Proxys can be blocked easily enough, same with other tunneling protocol, but I know someone has to be doing this and Im interested in what happends on both sides here. The hacker who makes it look like he is in Canada, and the casino.

As an academic question, a technical cat & mouse question, I can't disclose to you much more than I already have about what we do to prevent the scenario you're talking about. As to what players do...we've seen a lot of attempts of various stripes and calibers to run the blockade. We've turned away over 250 US players so far, many of whom have tried one way or another to mask their identity. Believe me, I would love to have them playing in our casino. I'm really, really sorry that Americans don't get out in these numbers to stand outside their state capital and demand the right to do what they want with their own money, including playing it online.

Ultimately, we believe our legal and ethical obligation to obey US law and to block American players does have to have some rational end; we're just doing our best to comply here with all reasonable measures in our power.

Send me 10 BTC and I will register at your site from super-private VPN (which is not in your blacklist) and provide any documents you will ask from me. If you could catch me, I will refund.

P.S. I am just proving that methods you use are not sufficient to guarantee U.S. players detection thus have no defense in court.

I wanted to join Sapphire, but I am in the USA, and I heeded the site's request to not try to fool them into thinking I was "Canadian"  Grin

So I joined http://btcsportsbetting.com/ instead.  They take US customers, no problem.  And the betting is all done in bitcoin (actually dBTC, 1/10 of a bitcoin)  without converting to US Dollars, like Sapphire does.  I much prefer to just bet in bitcoin.

I've been doing decent at Blackjack over there.  Grin

Geek-trader: Thank you, and all like you, for having the decency, courtesy and chivalry to respect our wishes and terms of service. No one wants to have their cash withheld while we figure out where they're from, anyway, right?

People in the US: This is good advice. Play at btcsportsbetting.com. They seem to be a good site. And we've heard their roulette works better than ours.

Just an FYI for US players, online gambling is illegal. Which is why online casinos are illegal in the U.S.

(Poker on the other hand is a game of skill and is perfectly legal online)
