Is Vitalik unpredictable? A threat to Ethereum network?

Vitalik is a genius cryptographer but also a shady one,he has some connections with governments and powerful corporations.
These days him and his apple polishers were speculating about charging rent to use and store things on the network.
I mean, do you feel safe totally holding ERC20 tokens for 10 years? Is the ethereum blockchain really safe from third parties interference?
At least if you hold bitcoin you can be sure that in 10 years they will still be there untouched.
