I was looking into blockchain related patents recently and found this :

Quote
System and method for creating a multi-branched blockchain with configurable protocol rules
https://patents.google.com/patent/US9608829B2/en

I'm a little bit disappointed, could please someone explain it to me: does it mean if I create a cryptocurrency with "sidechains", in USA it automatically becomes a target for patent trolls?

EDIT: I'm not expecting a legal advice, just wanted to feel the reality, how these things are handled there?

Anything can be a target for patent trolls and particularly any new technology. I think that Google has already started to patent some inventions that are far too generic.
