But looking at the recent slump and disappearing ICO market, I am having doubts.

You might wait further till the market provides you more opportunity to continue the project you are hoping to. And also, do consider the news and do some fundamental analysis of the situation in order to be sure of your decisions.

Doubts have many people that are working here. Use your doubts wisely when you choosing an ICO or Bounty. It will help you to not make a mistake. If you decide to start work here then go further without hesitation.

Don't get discouraged by the current slump of the crypto market. You should apply to startup projects that have successful ICO's and have an actual product. The Aelf team is hiring some developers in their developer bounty and they have a very competitive reward. You should try to check them out and be part of their team.
