Hey all, new to the site, but not really to bitcoin.  I've been to the forum a couple times but I just registered in order to watch this thread:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=147009.0 on installing Armory on a Raspberry Pi.  I am very interested to do this but the offline bundle supplied on the website does not currently work with the Raspian image supplied on the Raspberry Pi page (or with N00bs).  I've seen a couple tutorials on how to compile Armory for the RPi but all include either having a separate Linux machine (I do not) and cross-compiling or connecting the RPi to the internet for the downloading of dependencies before disconnecting and compiling (and I would rather, for posterities sake, never have the RPi (on this particular SD Card) "touch" the internet).  Does anybody have any advice for this?  I've seen other tutorials for creating offline wallets with the Raspberry Pi and other machines, but I like the watchable characteristics of creating a "watch only" wallet in the online/companion installation of Armory. So any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
cybertrack

I would advise you to install bitcoin-qt on a offline computer, generate your address and then backup your private key on paper / usb key with no internet access and it would be the best protection you could have. You can of course put your paper / usb key with private key in a safe or under your mattress Cheesy

Just go to their official website download a wallet and install it. If you have some money I would suggest you buy at least Raspberry Pi and use it to install the wallet on. Then disconnect it from the internet and keep it somewhere safe. It's like a safe basically that way.

YES! first off thanks so much for your replies, I DO have a Raspberry Pi and I AM trying to create an offline wallet with it. It appears to me that Armory offers the most complete solution to this, but the offline bundle they offer on their website requires exaclty 10.04 Ubuntu and I don't think that's able to be installed easily on a RPi (I'm a bit of a noob and am running Raspbian currently, which I think is version 7 of debian and I think incompatible with Armory).

@cybertrack, isn't there an issue with with installing bitcoin-qt on an offline computer?  Won't it need to synchronize with the blockchain?  Assuming this isn't an issue, what's the process for backing up the private key?  I assume sending money to this new address wouldn't be terribly difficult, but how would I send money FROM it?  Any link to a tutorial would be greatly appreciated.

@Sheldor333, YES! That's exactly what I want to do, I already have an RPi and am trying use it to create an offline wallet, but haven't found a tutorial yet that is clear or easy enough for me to feel comfortable doing it.  That's why I liked Armory and wish to install that on the RPi.  I understand the process and like that I can easily create a watch-only wallet for the offline one AND that its clear to me how I would send money FROM the offline wallet if I needed to.

Thanks again for your help

For the absolute most secure storage of my bitcoins.

https://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/

That's from the Armory website, but the logic in the info halfway down the page is solid.
