How is the copyright on the logo from bitcoin and altcoins managed? On the bitcoin wiki there is a page with 'promotional graphics', but are these free to use in commercial products? For example, I see a lot of clothing webshop using these logo's and names, however I can't find a specific topic/site where there is something stated about the copyright on this..

It depends on the author of the logo; bitcoin has no officially recognized logo, you can make a new one and start using it at any time you please.  The ones on the wiki should all be public domain; see here for bitboy's logo, showing that he's made it public.
