Hi,
I've been offered an opportunity to work at a cryptocurrency exchange startup as a software engineer. I'm interested in the technologies involved, though not Java which they want me to use. What's it like to work on these things?

Also, do you think the current competitiveness of cryptoexchanges is a winner-take-all thing? Seems like there's an abundance of them.

I'm pretty sure it will took a lot of hard work to build an exchange. It will be a continuous development (a never ending I guess) to provide the highest security & the best user experience.

Also, do you think the current competitiveness of cryptoexchanges is a winner-take-all thing? Seems like there's an abundance of them.
Well, yeah kind of.
Do you know the Binance exchange? So far it's the top in which most projects wants their token/coin to be listed in.
It have the highest daily volume and could have the highest profit too.

IMO, working on an exchange would be a great opportunity (a good addition to your portfolio).
You just need to be sure that the company is serious on the project and have $$$ for the whole development.
If you think they don't have that, dump the offer.

Without reference to the technical aspect of what the establishment of cryto exchange site is all about, I think its a great opportunity that I would take if I were given the opportunity to serve in such capacity. Its true that there is competitiveness but I can say there is room for everybody to feature even if you are starting now. In my opinion, there are three categories of crypto exchange sites we have now which are the A,B,C. The As are the Binance, Poloniex, CEX etc.The B category would then be HiBtc, LiveCoin, C-Cex etc and the C would be all of the upcoming ones.

One thing that is common to both the A and B is that they have huge volume of transactions and people to deal with which led to a lot of complains from customers. This is where there is an opportunity for a new one like yours to feature to fill the gap and before you know, starting from category C does not mean you can climb higher in a short period just like the poster above has shared.

Have you worked on companies beforehand?
I guess it won't have much difference between companies, the only difference I can think of is security.
Exchange needs to take security concerns seriously, does that startup has its own Cyber Security Experts?
If not, I think you will be in charge with those too voluntarily.

Also, do you think the current competitiveness of cryptoexchanges is a winner-take-all thing? Seems like there's an abundance of them.
Honestly, the only way for exchange to win in this market competitive wise is by giving good customer support and trusted by the community.
Most of exchange that's been around has sub-par Customer Support, as if they don't care about their Customer.
By having a fast, friendly customer support your startup will have its own positive point in our eyes.

I agree. I'd think the reliability of the customer support comes first on the basis of choosing an exchange (given that it have listed the target coin/token).
Also I would like to add that they shouldn't go beyond the level of Yobit in which they don't restrict shitcoins to be listed.
It's like giving a bad option for traders.

Thanks all for the tips; I've worked on my own company before, and this startup has a security guy. It seems sufficient enough.

Take that opportunity as long you are getting paid on what you work for. Cryptoexchanges might be abundant or rampant nowadays but once it would boom up then it will benefit you also and a good accomplishment or record of your works. Suggestions and things mentioned above was right when it comes to security matters which should really be the main concern.
