I am trying to get this up and running. So far I:

1. Installed cgminer 3.8.4
2. Registered an account on BTC guild
3. Followed steps on btc guild to get this rolling
4. signed in to the stratum.btcguild.com:3333
5. Installed a bitcoin wallet from bitcoin.org

How do I get whats happening to show results on the btcguilds Dashboard. It shows 0's all across the board.
Under "Active Worker Summary" its showing 0's, its like Im not connected at all.
Command Prompt is showing that I am connected. Why is the Dashboard information empty?

I am going to be honest, this is the first time I have ever looked into bitcoin mining.. I have a real nice gamer build and I wanted to see what I could do with it.

Btc guild

uhm no, with your CPU or your GPU?

If the answer is yes -> need another tool (e.g. bfgminer)

If the answer is no (as in you want to use external hardware to mine) -> check if the device is found by your OS

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

I could use both? Probably the CPU its most powerful. There an advantage over using one or the other?

External? I will use my OS harddrive. Is there an external device I need additionally?

Nothing in your gaming computer is useful for mining bitcoins, you will waste money trying.

But you might be able to mine litecoins, if you have an AMD card. With Nvidia it's next to pointless.

Please DO NOT send me private messages asking for help setting up GPU miners. I will not respond!!!

Using your CPU for BTC Mining is a waste of money (you pay for electricity), same goes for GPU. But if you just want to try it out you need another tool. cgminer only works with extra hardware (like these http://www.1a20.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/1zp6s8i1.jpg )

As pontiacg5 posted, better mine another coins

I have a Intel I7 3770K Oc'd to 5Ghz 24/7 -- I use an AMD Radeon HD 7870 Ghz Edition OC'd as well

I couldn't make money at idle time with this? Do I have to spend bitcoins or $ to mine bitcoins?

Yes they are called block erupters, but I would not recommend buying them. Even they cost you too much in electricity and hardware. CGMiner only works with these or similar hardware.

Try BFGMiner or GUIminer it will work with your CPU and or GPU but, as said above, you will pay more for electricity than you will get in BTC.

So what I am gathering is that its a lot harder than I thought to mine bitcoins. I would need an extremely efficient and costly "dedicated" server in order to make any money from this?

Not server, but hardware. All hashes are counted as equal, but not all hashes are generated from the same amount of electricity. That is what makes bitcoin unprofitable for your current hardware.

Trying to get hardware that will actually pay for itself is hard.
