Wrong forum for this. Ask in meta.

Anyway, I gather that scamming/spamming or other poor "habits" were often being combined with multiple accounts on one IP so the rule was put in place to limit or slow such negative actions.

This might be done to limit the number of accounts that can be created from TOR exit nodes with the specific purpose of anonymous scamming?

Hm... had no idea this limitation was implemented.  I know of other sites I frequent that use 1 ip per user.  Those sites usually allow a secondary account with the ip upon giving proof that there is a seperate person in the household who wishes to make an account.  Few scammers would go through the trouble of getting a scanned ID, waiting for confirmation, etc. to get a second account.  Most would just change their ip (a lot easier).

Why would one have to be anonymous here unless they have the intention of doing something sketchy.  There are far too many people with way more bitcoins than the scammers out there that aren't anonymous. Makes you wonder... how about just blocking all Tor traffic?

Not necessarily true, but I'd guess a larger percentage of people who use tor do so for nefarious purposes. Maybe some peeps just want full anonymity and for other security reasons. BTC is still in an largely undefined, unregulated grey area, and it's very likely governments are gonna want their cut of profits eventually and I can't see most of these BTC millionaires wanting to chuck money away on capital gains tax.

No such limit exists.

So is it ok to have two accounts from one IP? I'm trying to get my bro in to BTC and I think him joining this site and trying to make some money via paid signature adds would be great way to do so, but I don't want him to do it if it's gonna look bad on me or stop me from posting.

Yup! Only if you get banned or are strongly believed to be a scammer do you lose the privilege to have multiple accounts from one IP. In fact, you are allowed to have multiple accounts as a single person, if you wish!

Worth repeating as it seems to have been overlooked.

No such limit exists.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

I am sorry but I receive the message: "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later." even when it is the first time I post. Maybe my provider (Virgin in the UK) is using dynamic IP. But please consider us.   Sad

I guess that clear things.
The only limit for using more than one account is to the number of posts from an IP (360 seconds for less than 10 activity).

This is a very heavy limit, because it's very hard to use the forum from a mobile connections where 1 IP is shared among hundreds or even thousands of phones.

I've only ever logged into this site twice, and the second time was only recently after the man in the middle attack, but I still got the 'The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago' quite a bit.
