Suggestion: lowering the search time limit

Right now if you try to search within 90 seconds you get an error. But searching past threads is very important and in general a sign of good netiquette. When I look if a topic has been covered I make many many search within 90 seconds. I try something, this sometimes does not provide any result. So I try something else. I might need to make 5 or 10 searches before I get what I am looking for. And usually I do them all in 1 minute.

Unfortunately when you get an error you then cannot make a search for 90 seconds, you can either wait, give up, or ask the question.

So this limit is feeding directly in the way people ask multiple times the same question. I really think a limit of 3 seconds is a healthy number, and it would still stop bots (which I assume is the reason for it to be there). 3 seconds is the time in which we shake hands, we respond well to it.

Agreed in principle, although I'm not sure 3 seconds is the right limit. I'd be alright with 5 or 10, easily.

The search limit is important to avoid ddos'ing and abuse of resources by this way (1000 people searching every 3 seconds will be tough for the server). though 90 seconds is too much,perhaps 10-20 seconds will be more suitable.

It is annoying, but as DeboraMeeks said, it's a security feature. You're just gonna have to bear it I'm afraid.

But then we all have to bear with people asking multiple times the same question.

Maybe a 10 second limits could be ok.

In any case why don't you try to lower it, and see how far can you go before the system has some problems. At which point you just raise it over that limit.

P.S. I understand you are not programming the system, but just changing some parameters, if not I would suggest to get a dynamic time limit as a function of the number of people that have been active in the last minute.

I agree with you,I sometimes look for the same topic but with different address or names or just click the button twice. waiting for 6 mins is too much and even if it's lowered to a single minute after I increase my activity it's still too much. Maybe 10-20 seconds is more productive.

i understand the possibility of a attack or overwhelming the system. but 90 sec is a lifetime. especially if a misspelling occurs. 90 secs makes me reflect on my life choices.
