Coins do not simply vanish. Perhaps your client was not synced and did not broadcast it. Perhaps you sent them from a service that experienced technical difficulties and did not process your withdrawal request.

Thats just it, I used multibit as always, was completely synced with the network. it gives a tranaction id etc, but just doesn`t show up. in the mean time the btc has been debited from my account.
Blockchain shows "transaction not found"
Yets btc is gone from my wallet.

Thanks, I think thats the problem, they are stuck. The tranaction shows a little square by it. I`ve reset Multibit but still no dice.

and now the transaction is gone and so is my .2 of btc As I said, coins cannot "disappear" unless you destroy/lose the private key OR spend the outputs. However, they cannot actually be destroyed, they are in a sense indestructible, they will be in the ledger regardless.

ok, panic over.
Thanks for all your help.
Turns out I had to reset the blockchain. Three times. Only then did it show up.
Issue resolved.
Thanks again.

The reset blockchain is a go-to button with Multibit. We've had probably over 100 support cases related to this issue on our service. From our point of view it almost seems Multibit is more often not seeing transactions, than seeing them. That's obviously biased, but this doesn't happen with any other wallet.

There are various reasons why transactions are not seen or propagated and of course it is a process of gradual improvement to eliminate these. We have various support items on multibit.org to help people when they encounter this problem. "More often than not" is over 50% of all cases which is _slightly_ hyperbolic. There were a third of a million downloads of MultiBit in November, basically being supported for free by Gary and I in our spare time. Your support articles helping users when they encounter this issue are of course helpful and appreciated.
