Hello all!  New guy AGNJoe here and I'm just getting into mining.  A couple of things...

First, I'm mining with a Nvidia card instead of an ATI card.  Yes I know, ATI is better, but I can't afford an ATI card and for now I'm unemployed and stuck with what I have, although what I have now is a decent GTX 580 that's overclocked with 1.5 ghz of RAM.

I'm just started mining bitcoins and using Slush's pool with GUI miner. However, after mining, I realized that I would only be getting pennies on the dollar for mining, and realized it would take weeks if not months just to get close to mining 0.01 of one BITCOIN.  So I'm deciding to see if I might switch over to Litecoins to see what's going on.

I'm using GUIMiner because it's simple, but I'm having trouble setting it up on Litecoins.  And yes I know that there is the Gui-miner for bitcoins and Gui-miner scrypt for litecoins.  My problem is getting it set up on the scyrpt version for litecoins.  I have both the GUIminer for bitcoins set up, and I'm in the process of starting GUIminer-scrypt, but I have no clue on a step by step procedure to setup for mining when it comes to litecoins.

I'm running a GTX580 with 1.5 ghz ram that's overclocked, and I want to mine on and off but not to where I'm constantly mining to where I burn my computer out because I'm unemployed and this is the only computer I have.  I can't afford buying new cards or new equipment.

At this time, I have my Bitcoin and Litecoin wallets set up.
I have GUIminer for Bitcoins already running, so I can at least continue mining bitcoins, but I wihile I have downloaded GUIMiner scrypt, it's not set up to a mining pool for Litecoins at the moment and that's where I need help with.
I've also downloaded the CUDA software needed for Nvidia to help with mining.

Any ideas or suggestions?  I'm really new at this.

Definitely switch to Litecoin Scrypt.

Also, I'd try out something like Middlecoin.com since it will auto-convert to Bitcoins.

You can use GUIMiner-Scrypt if you are not ready to tackle mastering cgminer, too.

Welcome to the boards and welcome to the wonderful world of Bitcoin!

My problem is that I have no idea where to start with mining when it comes to lite coins, and most of the info from the tutorials are not helpful when it comes to setting up mining when it comes Nvidia cards.

Plus I have no idea where to start when it comes to mining litecoins.  I'll take any advice as to where to start.

You should be able to view this thread.

This is the topic for middlecoin.com where you can hash Scrypt (like Litecoin) but receive payouts in Bitcoin.  That way you can make the best use of your card while mining something more useful than Litecoin.

As far as settings for Nvidia cards, you might want to check out this page and see if they have any optimal settings for your cards.  I've never used an Nvidia card to mine with so I don't have experience there.

As far as the actual mining program, I prefer CGMiner, and suggest learning to use it rather than sticking with something easier, but it's just a personal preference.  Note:  For Scrypt mining you must use CGMiner v3.7.2 or earlier as GPU mining is disabled in the more recent version.

If you need help setting it up there are usually some friendly people on these forums that will aid you in troubleshooting, but you have to get your feet wet first Smiley

Actually, CGminer looks really hard and I have no clue how to set up the parameters on it, so for now I'd prefer to avoid it at the moment.  Plus all of the stuff I have seen with cgminer is directed for ATI cards and no one going into Nvidia cards because that's what's accepted.  I have to make due with what I have at the moment.

I've already downloaded GUIminer scrypt so I can start mining, and I've downloaded the Litecoinqt wallet so I can get started there.

My problem is setting up a decent pool on GUIMiner and getting it started.

And no disrespect but I'm not looking to start mining with middlecoins because I don't know anything about them, while litecoins and bitcoins I know something about those.  I've never even heard of middle coins.

If you want advice, you should listen to it and actually check out the information provided.

Middlecoin is not a coin.  As I stated before, it is a way to mine the Scrypt algorithm and get paid in Bitcoin.  You wouldn't have to mess with any Litecoin wallet, just Bitcoin wallet.

Good luck to you.

I'm not sure if CUDAminer works for Litecoin, but it works great for me while hashing some new altcoin on my GTS 450.

Well again, not trying to be disrespectful, but I was interested in mining litecoins since they seem easier to obtain, and then transferring them over to bitcoins to invest in.

And thanks for stopping by ajax.  I've never heard of CUDAminer, but I did download CUDA to help get my GUIminer working, as I've already downloaded that as well in preparation just in case I needed it.

I went over TacoTime's GUIminer-scrypt thread but I didn't find any helpful information on how to set up GUIminer for Nvidia cards.

I know Nvidia cards are more of a pain in the ass to mine with, but it's all I've got to work with at the moment, and Taco's GUIminer looks to be fairly easy to manage for me.
