Is it possible to run 7 280x's on a 1500 watt psu? All that will be running in the system is a haswell Pentium dual core on idle with the 7 280x's, let me know your thoughts.

You need 3 X 1500 W to supply all required power.

one 280x is 250w full load i would take extra 50w for oc thats 2100w for cards only
add about 150-200w for rest of the system

yeah I figured just gonna run 3 video cards and the system on a 1000 watt, then run the other 4 on a 1350 watt and I should be good and then I have overclocking headroom.

My rule of thumb is running the PSU at the same % of it's max load as how efficient it is. Example: If a 1000W PSU is 88% efficient, I would be comfortable running it at 880W all day long. Another way of looking at it is I like my at-the-wall draw to be what the PSU is rated for.

As someone else said, a 280x is ~250W. That's 1750W just for the PSUs, and I'd add another 100W or so for your MB/CPU/RAM/HD. That's 1850W.

I would say a pair of 1000W PSUs might work, but only if it's 80Plus Gold. A pair of 80Plus Bronze 1100 or 1200W PSUs would also work.

If you're planning on pushing them balls-to-the-wall OC, go for a 1100 or 1200W Gold.

And obviously only buy from trusted manufacturers. SeaSonic is pretty much the best, IMO, but you can also go with Corsair, Antec, or a few others.

Cheers.
