Pc starts up and windows makes normal windows 7 startup sounds but the gpu is not providing a video feed.  It's not the cable because it works with my current card.

Currently working - 1 saphire 6870

Not working -2 referance xfx 6970's (tested 1 at a time neither work)

MB - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBFPZDO/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

PSU - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CGY4ETG/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No these are not affiliate links.

Any ideas?

I had issues with swapping video cards in winblows until switching to Ubuntu, you need to start in SAFE MODE ( not shure if you can in win 7 ) and run the driver installer and NOT the auto install new hard ware.  Keep your fingers crossed that you CAN start with the ' basic VGA ' driver that way then install the card's drivers.

Option 2 - install Ubuntu on a second partition and boot to that.  Most cd/DVD install images ( after converting to a bootable thumb or disc ) will assist in the repartitioning, just remember how much space you want to keep on the Win7 side as most of the Ubuntu side won't show up ( if it shows at all ).

I tried to download 6900 series drivers from AMD's support/downloads page. Hoping this would remedy the current issue. Unfortunately since these cards are so old they did not have 6000 series listed on the drop down menu for desktop gpu's. Is there another place to download the drivers?

Would it even be worth while to install drivers before hand?

support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 8.1 - 32

They dumped in to the ' HD series ' for the 6xxx HD Radion cards, that link is in case you are using the 32 bit Operating System.

This driver should be the same or an updated version of what is already installed since the gpu that is working is also 6xxx series. Either way I'll update to the newest version and try again.

Edit: Problem solved! My hash rate has nearly tripped without tweaking!! Thanks so much for all the help!!!

Seems like a driver problem.Just fresh install the driver and everything will be fine.
