I  know there are tons of exchange platforms out there nowadays. Which one would you recommend in terms of security and user-friendly?

I use Cryptsy for exchanging crypto currencies - personally have never had an issue although some people claim to have problems with it.

Testing out cryptsy. Some currencies seems to get processed faster than others, but my sample size is way too low to really make a solid claim. Overall they seem OK.

I think exchange sites should be more forthcoming in their fees BEFORE you join

I've been using cryptsy to trade alt coins up to bitcoins for the last 2 weeks or so. So far so good. Fairly quick on the deposits and almost instantaneous trades.

You can always start small and only send a very small amount to the exchange's wallet and test the speed and stability and use the one that you like the most, or just use the most popular one...

Yes,that seems like a good option to see whether there would be any problems.It's quite good for that kind of stuff.
