What do you think this means for the altcoin market?

A coin that started as a joke is about to surpass a serious currency in mining interest, having already surpassed it's price for some time.

Is the world ending? Maybe the Mayans had it right, just a little early? Maybe it's a new beginning for the shambled alt market, as profits from doge, media attention, and word of mouth spread, any altcoin could be the comeback kid, too?

Thoughts?

If anything this shows how vulnerable any of these altcoins are to manipulation.  Dogecoin can exceed the network hashrate of Litecoin after less than a week of hype; maybe question the confidence behind litecoin as the "silver to bitcoin's gold"  (still can't say that with a straight face).

The world isn't ending, but Litecoin certainly isn't immune to the realities of the market whims, nor is it immune from attack.

Not so much an omg for doge, but instead this should be a humbling lesson to scryptcoin investors and speculators.  Lots of altcoins to pick from, but none out there that could withstand a concerted effort to manipulate or or attack.  I doubt anything in altcoins can be treated as a long-term bitcoin investment alternative.

Strange times we live in. I hope it doesn't delegitimize cryptos, to have such a coin be so successful. It looks like we aren't even trying to be serious.
