I have an upgraded 7+.  It holds 8 with no problem.

you need JTAG programmer to be able to re-flash it.
it's basically good for 5gh/25gh/50gh units to overclock to 8gh/30gh/60gh but you can't upgrade yours since is already overclocked by BFL.
you can maybe get it to 8-8.5gh but your HW error will jump up so no good at all.
stay where you are and don't bother.
