6x r9 280x costs me 2500$
5x r9 290   costs me 2540$

and not sure about their khs

I would go with the 290s.  They seem to be more popular and the set would be (about) 320khs faster than the other set.

Getting stable 810kH/s with my Asus R9 290 without any tweaking of voltage or clockspeeds. Just the standard values. With stock fan it ran at 96C (totally crazy) but after I got a waterblock for it it now runs at 65C.
