I believe this is the first full length feature film to accept bitcoin
as direct payment for a movie.

http://theyankmovie.com

It has some stars in it. Fred Willard, Colm Meaney, Kevin Farley (Chris Farley's Brother)

Fred Willard is in the latest Ron Burgundy Film with Will Ferrell.

Meaney was a Star Trek regular.

They have an active Bitcoin payment button front and center on the main page which goes to a live bitpay order page where they are accepting pre-orders for DVD.

It looks like this motion picture had a decent size budget according to IMDB.

The movie was filmed in Ireland and Cleveland.

According to IMDB the film is set to be released into theaters on St. Patricks Day 2014.

All signs point to a low-budget stinker, but I still support them (without buying the film).

It'll be interesting to see which film will first be financed using BTC. Not sure if it'll ever happen, but I guess we'll see!

Full marks to anyone who gets a film made, but I can't believe they'd let it out into the world looking and sounding like it was filmed on a mobile phone.

Considering the no budget film arena is very tech savvy these days I'd think a Bitcoin financed film will be arriving sooner rather than later. I think one of the big holders cashed out with the intention of spending a lot of it on making a horror movie.

Really? I'd love to know more about this if you have a link or something...

When you mean financed by BTC how would that work? Would a miner or someone holding a ton of BTC cashout their BTC to USD and then finace the film? Technically the film would have been financed by USD not BTC? Im thinking it would be better IMO  if say the next Hobbitt or Avengers movie announces that their film is only available on DVD through Overstock and only using BTC would be ideal.

I think it'd be more feasible for a "Bitcoin millionaire" to finance a film after transferring some of his BTC into USD. Paying for a good portion of a film production with BTC is just not doable at this point... Crew and talent salaries/camera rentals/location rentals/production design/catering/post-production work/publicity and advertising/etc. just isn't doable with BTC right now. Even for a tiny indie film in which everyone agreed to be paid in BTC, you'd still have to deal with outside businesses who won't even know what it is.

Either way, it'll be fun to see...

I agree even watching a documentary about how this indie film from the future was financed using BTC  or would be very educational.

So this guy cashed out his BTC and made a horror flick that has not been released yet?

I just hope that it's not a very low-budget piece of shit, which is pretty much anything under ~$2M.

The vast majority (and by that I mean 95%+) of low budget horror films never see the light of day. Most don't deserve to anyways, but still.

I wish him nothing but luck!

But where's the fun in not sharing it with friends and (hopefully) fans?

low budget zombie horror films are all the rage these days. I saw Cocknies vs Zombies recently and it was actually pretty good.

For every Cocknies Vs. Zombies, there are at least 20 other low budget zombie movies just like it of varying quality. Those that get seen are the lucky ones and not even always the "better" ones.

It's just the way the film world works.
