^This, only if you have some spare funds then you can invest in HW but remember  diff is only growing out there so you need top gear which costs a lot + electricity bills ! and always plan +5%-10% of expensies

You wont make money by cloud mining. You can make money by trading the shares. If you want BTC you should buy it. Though I encourage everyone to get some mining gear! It's good fun and you learn a lot about computers.

Try quarkcoins(QRK) right now they're very cheap, like .08 USD per coin.
Btc38, Btc-e and Coinmkt all have plans to add quark in the next couple months, which will send the price up. Estimated $1 per quark by April, so mass buy them now and sell them later.

A lot of similar threads appear recently and I think these need to be pointed out for the newbies:

- Buying bitcoin (or any other altcoins) in the hope of future fiat profit is not investing....it's only speculation.

- Cloud Mining is a ripoff generally, don't waste your time/money

- 99.9% (basically all of them except LTC at this point) of the altcoins are useless and only pump and dump schemes (beware of losing your money)

- do not trust strangers on internet forums when it comes to "speculation" on high risk "assets"

Do you think this of NMC and PPC also?

As for PPC it represents changes which are not very appealing for me at this point.

NMC is a nice concept, but I don't plan on speculating on it. (I might have some which I got for free a while back)

If there will be a useful improvement, I'm sure that it will be implemented in the bitcoin protocol sooner or later. I consider altcoins as a good way of properly testing features/concepts though.

I see, thanks. I've been trying to read up on PoS lately so that's why I asked. Is it not as hard to implement changes in the protocol as most people assume?

If you have access to free electricity mining can be very profitable. I don't advocate stealing electricity, abusing your uni or work campus or violating fair use policies on rentals, but that's the way it is.
