You could argue memes cheapen cryptocurrency by promoting low effort content. You could even say it discourages people from taking cryptocurrency seriously.

Those that have been in this game for a while know that if you do not laugh - you will cry.

Embrace the memes - it's how fast adoption will happen.

We'll start with the OG Bitcoin meme. It was created on this very forum by The Mighty GameKyuubi - HODL!

In his drunken stupor he misspelled his post title "I AM HODLING" - inside the thread contained a poetic paragraph of intoxicated rambling.

Please do yourself a favour and give it a read. It's history man. Museums will print this out and display it for all to see in the future.

Next up we have Satoshi Nakamoto - the anonymous founder of Bitcoin.

While we have no idea who this mysterious crypto guru is - it didn't stop channel 4 news from hunting down a poor bloke with the same name in 2014.

After a car chase through the streets of LA, they managed to squeeze a few words out of the man himself. He denied any involvement with the Bitcoin project.

His reaction triggered a creation of memes and we're all thankful for it.

"Are you Batman?"

"No" - Bruce Wayne

You never know...

Some of these memes have better origin stories than Batman - feel free to read the full article for yourself:
